Newly Diagnosed Diabetics
.Dawn Effect
Submitted by shurow on June 26, 2007 - 9:05pm.Being diagnosed Type 2 February of this year, my VA Doctor prescribed 1 metformin with breakfast daily & said my HG should be between 100 & 120 within a reasonable amount of time. It was 165 upon diagnosis. I've not been overweight & have dropped down to 158 lbs from 175. HG got in line after research showed me to get my carbs below 100 per day. Now I find my HG after fasting is at 145 to 150 each morning before meds & breakfast. I will see my doctor late July - is it time to increase dosage of metformin or am I concerned over nothing?
Thanks for any help, Jeff
Aggressive Action
Submitted by Dwiz on March 14, 2007 - 12:35pm.Researching diabetes has taught me that taking immediate aggressive action to reduce blood sugar levels to below 100 mg/dL (70 mg/dL is you smoke) is critical. Critical in slowing the rate of cell damage and severe complications.
Consider that when you are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, you will have had excess blood sugar for years. During these years your body's cells will have been under attack by glucose and sometime fructose molecules. They attack by attaching themselves to blood vessels, nerves, organs, and all cells that will accept them.
