On April 5, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation of Princeton, New Jersey committed $500 Million for the next 5 years to fight childhood obesity. You can access this transcript from PBS.com. Equal VS Splenda in Court

There is a big courtroom brawl pitting Merisant, the maker of 'Equal' and 'NutraSweet' against Johnson & Johnson, the marketer of 'Splenda' - all artificial sweeteners. Merisant claims that Mcneil Nutritionals LLC, an arm of J&J deliberately confused comsumers over if Splenda is a natural product.

The important fact is Splenda is an man-made sweetener. The importance to Diabetics and pre-Diabetics is Splenda is claimed to provide zero calories and zero glucose. It is created by passing sucrose (sugar) through a chemical process. The sucrose molecule is rearrange to produce a new molecule that is sweeter than sucrose and one the liver does not recognize. Consequently, it passes out of your body along with the waste products. This is the current claim by J&J.

Stem Cells & Type 1 Diabetes

The exciting news is Brazilian researchers may have developed a potential treatment for T-1 diabetes using the patients' stem cells. The cause of the beneficial result has not been clearly identified.

MONDAY, April 9 (HealthDay News) -- Adults with diabetes may be at higher risk for developing mild cognitive impairment, a condition that is often seen as a precursor to Alzheimer's disease, new research found.
