The joys of cooking

.

I love to cook and love to eat. As we begin to focus more on changing what we eat and how we eat, it is actually a little challenging. The foods we grew up with and love, don't always work and the ways we cooked don't always work. This makes us uneasy lots of times.

We have just got to start playing games with ourselves so that we can enjoy this part of the journey and not resist it. There is so much stress when you have to resist the changes one must sometimes make in life.

So we grill more, gift yourslef a great grill that easy to use and easy to clean up. We have to steam more, gift yourself a steamer, the old fashioned bamboo ones are fun if you are into that sort of thing. Or the stainless steel ones you can get are also fun. Experiment with the recipes that come with these purchases. Have friends over and have them go through these experiemts with you. After all, aren't you helping them as well?

This all makes changing fun. It does not have to be tedious at all.

I admire your perspective.

It is hard to change but my attitude can make or break me. The key is the taste. It is like a memory of what food "should" taste like that trips me up. I find it easier to anticipate new flavors and adventures with food and let memories stay packed in a box. like old photos.

The truth of the matter

As we begin to focus on the great memories that surround food, it's like opening up Pandora's box. Especially around those big family holidays like the one we have coming up...Thanksgiving. All we have to do is keep the same menu, but make it up to date...for our lives today. A bit like how we dress. Short shorts get updated to Capris and so on. If we can hold onto our memories... and those occasions that make them really special... and find ways to make the wonderful food work for us today, wouldn't that be a blast!

Grain fiber better than fruit and veggies?

Well, in today's news they are apparently finding that all fiber is not created equal. It appears that fiber from whole grains like oatmeal and wheat is a better source than fiber from fruit and veggies. That can't be right. Fruit and veggies are such an important part of how we eat!

A good snack?

I recently read that if a snack has less than 2 grams of fiber per serving, we should not have that as a snack. What do you guys think about that?
