Managing Complications

.

People are naturally optimistic. Before they sense complications they tend to not believe complications will happen. And once they have begun treatment with positive results, then they start to loose their discipline. They forget to take medications; start eating more sugary foods; don't feel like exercising. Before you know it, their blood glucose is high again - back to square one.

Unfortunately, this behavior occurs with many people. We also see it in "yo-yo" dieters.

Type 1 diabetics have smaller margin for slippage of treatment. With no insulin entering their bodies, the penalty is swift. On the other hand, Type 2 diabetics can cheat a while longer before they pay the price.

Fighting diabetes is a lifelong event. It is a lifestyle. You must continue treatment for life. Your physician, preferably an endocrinologist and the rest of your medical team will guide you.

You have to take care of your end of the deal. Trust your medical team, learn as much as you can, and do as much as you can.
